Timeshare Managemen - Real Leadership Skills For Timeshare Leaders - The Industry Competes Globally
Timeshare and vacation industry both have one similar characteristic, they depend on salespeople to make sales on a one-time only sales situation with very little time invested to get to know the customer. A sale either happens, or it doesn’t. This leads to one of the biggest and longest standing problem in the timeshare industry for sales leaders, they often have to size up people, problems, objectives, and possible outcomes in seconds or minutes and don’t have the time to dig beneath the surface to understand more.
Communication between the leader and those being lead, or the lack of communication that’s clear, can be the result of a leader failing to maintain a lead in their organization and a successful place at the top of their industry.Communication breakdowns cause most of our problems. We can’t solve problems we don’t know exist and we don’t know they exist if we are not willing to listen.
When it comes to leadership, the untrained leader, will often use the same methods of dealing with sales staffs as with customers. The untrained leader doesn’t allow the employees or sales staff to take enough time to explain their issues or problems and therefore, the leader doesn’t really have enough information to make the best decisions about the issues. Employees and staffs who are not used to people not taking time to understand them and talk to them get frustrated and often that means that leaders are not really hearing about the problems in their workplace. As a leader, if you don’t know what’s wrong, how can you ever fix it or improve it? You can’t.
What happens. The problems often escalate and they wind up as much bigger problems with legal price tags to resolve, or there’s excessive employee turnover which results in a huge company price tag to recruit and train the replacements for those you might have been able to keep working for you if you weren’t so ignorant as to think that people didn’t need your attention. Our employees are often like our children, they tell you they want money and what they really want is your time. Most of the leaders who are not really leading, don’t give them the time and they pay the price for their ignorance.
If you are a leader, you risk losing even more if you choose to be unapproachable , unavailable, or can’t control your anger when confronting problems. If your goal is to be a successful learning organization then you will do what it takes to learn faster than your biggest competitors,and know what it takes to keep your staff working for you, not them.
